An illustrated story of the letter Yaa for kindergarten
Teach your child the letter Yaa in its different forms, with words containing the letter Yaa at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of the word, and help them tell the difference between the alif maqsura (the “soft” yaa) and the ordinary yaa — as in the words مصطفى (Mustafa) and يسري (Yusri).
The shape of the letter may look the same, but the sound is completely different.

A story written with full vowel marks that shows the letter ي (yaa) in its different forms. Read it to your child and have them repeat the words and notice the shape of the letter along with its vowel mark. ذَهَبَتْ يَارَا إِلَى الْبُسْتَانِ. (Yara went to the garden.)
أَهْدَاهَا الْبُسْتَانِيُّ عُقْدًا مِنْ الْيَاسَمِينِ. (The gardener gave her a necklace of jasmine.)
وَضَعَتْ يَارَا الْيَاسَمِينَ عَلَى يَدِهَا. (Yara placed the jasmine on her hand.)
شَاهَدَتْ يَمَامَةً فَوْقَ شَجرَةِ يُوسُفِي. (She saw a dove on top of Yusuf’s tree.)
فَنَادَتْ يَارَا أَخِيهَا يُوسُف . (So Yara called out to her brother Yusuf.)
فَطَارَتْ الْيَمَامَةُ إِلَى شَجَرَةِ أُخْرَى. (The dove flew off to another tree.)
حَزِنَتْ يَارَا. (Yara felt sad.)
قَالَ الْبُسْتَانِيّ: انْظُرِي هُنَاكَ يَمَامَةٌ أُخْرَى. (The gardener said: Look, there is another dove over there.)
قَالَتْ يَارَا: لَنْ أَصِيحَ بِصَوْتٍ عَالٍ؛ حَتَّى لَا تَطِيرَ الْيَمَامَةُ. (Yara said: I won’t shout out loud, so the dove won’t fly away.)
