The Importance of the Arabic Language in Islam
It is clear to anyone of sound mind how immensely important the Arabic language is, being the language of the Holy Quran and the pure Sunnah, and a part of our religion. Indeed, Islam cannot be properly upheld without it: a Muslim’s recitation of the Quran is only valid in Arabic, and reciting the Quran is a pillar of the prayer, which itself is one of the pillars of Islam.
1- What is the Importance of the Arabic Language in the Holy Quran?
Why is Arabic Called the Language of the Quran?
Allah honored the Arabs by revealing the Holy Quran in their language, granting this language the highest honor and adding to it strength and prominence.
- Language is the primary means of communication between people.
- It is the most important tool of thought.
- It is the vessel of knowledge, which writing preserves from being lost.
It is honor enough for the Arabic language that it is the language of the Holy Quran. Allah the Almighty said: {And indeed, the Quran is the revelation of the Lord of the worlds. The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down upon your heart, [O Muhammad] that you may be of the warners, in a clear Arabic language}. And although it is a language shared with others, Arabic is distinguished above all by being the language of the Islamic religion,
for the Holy Quran was revealed in Arabic. Allah the Almighty said: ﴿Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran that you might understand ﴾ [Yusuf: 2].
And He said: ﴿A Book whose verses have been detailed, an Arabic Quran for a people who know ﴾
Therefore, the Arabic language is a condition for understanding and reflecting upon the Quran and the Sunnah, without which the pillars of Islam, its acts of worship, and its obligations cannot be carried out.
