- The “haal” is always in the accusative; however, the word “haal” itself appears in the nominative in the verse by Ibn Malik:
“الحالُ وصفٌ فضلةٌ منتصبُ ** مفهِمٌ في حالٍ كفرداً أذهبُ” (“The haal is a non-essential adjective in the accusative, clarifying a circumstance, as in ‘I go alone’.”)
