A child learns their connection to their family members and their sense of belonging, along with the manners of good behavior: respecting elders and being kind to the young. The number of people in a family tree varies from one child to another, but the core members of a family tree are as follows:
- Grandfather (الجد — al-jadd)
- Grandmother (الجدة — al-jadda)
- Mother (الأم — al-umm)
- Father (الأب — al-ab)
- Paternal uncle / Maternal uncle (العم / الخال — al-‘amm / al-khaal)
- Paternal aunt / Maternal aunt (العمة / الخالة — al-‘amma / al-khaala)
- Brother and sister, however many there are (الأخ والأخت — al-akh wa al-ukht)
- Cousins on the father’s side / cousins on the mother’s side (ابن العم / بنت العم .. ابن الخال / ابنة الخالة)
- Grandchild (الحفيد — al-hafeed)
